Sibu launches council to amplify youth voices


Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), in partnership with Sibu Rural District Council, has prepare a physique to current voice to children inside the house.

Sibu Child Council is the second such assembly for Sarawak, and consists of 20 youths aged between 13 and 16.

Speaking on the launch event, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian talked about this was the second toddler council inside the state after the first prepare by Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

He recognized that in peninsular Malaysia, the one metropolis that had such a council was Petaling Jaya in Selangor.

Dr Sim, who will also be state Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, talked about it was important to empower children by giving them a voice together with discussing their rights, security and desires.

“This initiative reflects Sarawak’s commitment to the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI), which is a collaboration with Unicef Malaysia,” he talked about.

He added that the child council would supply a dialogue board for members to deal with factors akin to psychological nicely being, cyberbullying and totally different challenges affecting youthful of us within the current day.

Urging stakeholders to revisit insurance coverage insurance policies to raised incorporate youth voices, Dr Sim talked about, “We need to create spaces where their contributions shape our city.”
